Indian PM Modi condoles deaths in Kolkata hotel fire
Nine people, including five Bangladeshis, were killed in the blaze at a hotel building on Mirza Ghalib Street.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in a fire at a hotel in central Kolkata that killed nine people, including five Bangladeshis, today (19 August).
The fire broke out at a five-storey building housing several hotels on Mirza Ghalib Street in a densely populated area of central Kolkata.
In a post on X, Modi conveyed his condolences to the families of those who died and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
"Extremely pained to learn about the loss of lives due to a fire mishap in Kolkata. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this tragedy. May the injured recover at the earliest. The local administration is assisting those who are affected," he said.
At least six people were injured in the fire, while around 80 people were rescued from the building, according to local authorities.
