Bangladeshi man seeks Calcutta HC intervention alleging wife confined in West Bengal by in-laws
The couple had been in a relationship for nearly two years before marrying against the wishes of Momi Saha's family.
A young Bangladeshi businessman has moved the Calcutta High Court seeking intervention to bring back his wife, alleging she was taken to India by her parents to keep her away from him and confined in a relative's house in Birati, Kolkata, West Bengal.
Arijit Sarkar, 23, who has also approached the police, claimed his in-laws had forcibly taken his wife, Momi Saha, 19, to India following their marriage last September.
His lawyer Mukul Biswas said the case might be heard today (17 March).
Sarkar said Momi's parents and relatives assaulted him when he went to meet her at the Birati residence.
Sarkar and his wife's families are neighbours in Madhya Kanda near Narsingdi.
The couple had been in a relationship for nearly two years before marrying against the wishes of Saha's family.
"A few days after our marriage, her parents persuaded her to visit them for a few days. But they took her to India illegally, without any passport or visa. My wife has since then been kept in a house in Birati, near the Shrikrishna Jieu temple, where Momi's aunt Poli Saha lives with her husband Uttam Saha," said Sarkar.
"We have digital evidence to prove that my client's wife was illegally brought to Bengal," said Biswas.
