Ajinkya Shinde to lead CJP protest against CEC after top leaders' detention
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke named Shinde as his successor in a pre-recorded video made ahead of a possible arrest.
Ajinkya Shinde, the organisational in-charge of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), will lead the group's protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar following the detention of founder Abhijeet Dipke and other leaders, Dipke said in a pre-recorded video.
Dipke said he had recorded the video last night in anticipation of a possible arrest.
"If you're watching this video, that means Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das and I have been arrested. After us, this movement will be led by Ajinkya," Dipke said in the video.
"Please follow Ajinkya Shinde. He will be carrying forward the Cockroach Janta Party after Ashutosh, Saurav, and me," he added.
Shinde has been associated with the CJP since its formation. Earlier this month, he organised the group's protest in Mumbai.
A computer science graduate from Alibaug in Maharashtra, Shinde previously worked with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He campaigned for the Arvind Kejriwal-led party during the 2016 Goa Assembly elections and later worked for it in Maharashtra.
Shinde left his job in the information technology sector before joining the AAP, following the anti-corruption movement of 2011 that helped propel the party to prominence.
He was also among the CJP leaders who led the group's campaign for school reforms, which sought to improve government schools across India.
In June and July, Shinde took part in protests in Delhi over the leak of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) examination paper.
