Modi speaks to Saudi crown prince, condemns attacks on energy infrastructure in Middle East
“We agreed on the need to ensure freedom of navigation and keeping shipping lines open and secure," Modi says.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (28 March) said he spoke to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman over the phone and discussed the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Modi said he reiterated India's strong condemnation of attacks on energy infrastructure in the West Asia region during the conversation.
"Spoke with Crown Prince and PM of Saudi Arabia, HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman and discussed the ongoing conflict in West Asia. I reiterated India's condemnation of attacks on regional energy infrastructure," Modi said in the post.
"We agreed on the need to ensure freedom of navigation and keeping shipping lines open and secure," he added.
Modi also thanked the Saudi Crown Prince for his continued support for the welfare of the Indian community living in Saudi Arabia.
The conversation came as the war involving Iran and the United States, backed by Israel, has intensified since late February.
Modi has held a series of phone calls with several world leaders in recent weeks to discuss the conflict and its impact on global energy supply and shipping routes.
On March 24, Modi said he received a call from the US President Donald Trump and both the leaders had a "useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia".
He added that India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest and ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure and accessible is essential for the whole world.
"We agreed to stay in touch regarding efforts towards peace and stability," Modi wrote.
