Indian PM speaks to Oman’s Sultan, stresses on free navigation through Hormuz Strait

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (19 March) held a "productive conversation" with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, whose country has come under attacks during the West Asia war, to discuss the evolving situation in the conflict-hit region.
During the telephonic conversation, Modi emphasised India and Oman stand for safe and free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a statement issued by the Indian Prime Minister's Office said.
The Indian Prime Minister "spoke with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and conveyed advance Eid greetings to the people of Oman," it said.
According to the statement, both leaders agreed on the need to prioritise dialogue and diplomacy for de-escalation and the subsequent restoration of peace and stability."
Modi reiterated India's condemnation of the violation of Oman's sovereignty and territorial integrity and expressed appreciation for Oman's efforts to facilitate the safe return of thousands of people, including Indian nationals.
The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow body of water adjacent to Iran and Oman, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman.
