Indian crew member killed in attack on US tanker near Basra Port

An Indian crew member aboard a US-owned oil tanker was killed when the vessel came under attack in the waters near Iraq's Basra Port.
The Indian Embassy in Iraq confirmed the death today (12 March) and stated that 15 other Indian crew members on board the ship were safely evacuated.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.

The attack occurred yesterday (11 March) on the US-owned crude oil tanker Safesea Vishnu, sailing under the Marshall Islands flag, resulting in the tragic death of one Indian crew member.
In recent days, commercial vessels in the Persian Gulf have increasingly come under attack by Iranian military forces.
