Gold reserve worth $636 billion found in Pakistan
"The reserves could pay off Pakistan’s foreign debt," Gohar said
Soil samples from Tarbela indicate gold reserves worth $636 billion, said Hanif Gohar, chairman of Air Karachi and former senior vice president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).
The reserves could pay off Pakistan's foreign debt, he made the disclosure on Monday (3 November) while speaking at the Karachi Press Club, reports The Express Tribune.
He told the media that he had already informed the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and explained his team had contacted Australian and Canadian drilling companies to explore the reserves.
"As soon as we receive directives from the prime minister, we will begin extracting gold from Tarbela's soil," he said.
