Germany condemns Russian drone incursion as 'targeted provocation' against Poland, NATO

Germany on Wednesday (10 September) condemned Russia's recent drone incursion into Polish airspace, calling it a "targeted provocation" against Poland and NATO as a whole.
Jens Plötner, Germany's representative, made the remarks following a meeting of the E5 group, a forum of five European countries coordinating security and defence responses.
Plötner emphasised that the E5 countries would not be "provoked into hastened actions," signalling a measured approach while expressing strong support for Ukraine.
He added that the meeting serves as "a catalyst for new ideas and a motor of change" in the alliance's approach to regional security.
The incident comes after reports that 19 Russian drones entered Polish airspace during overnight attacks on western Ukraine, part of a larger strike in which Russia launched 415 drones.
Poland confirmed that up to four of these drones were shot down by Polish and NATO aircraft — the first time Russian drones have been downed over the territory of a NATO member state.
