Dhaka-Delhi defence ties, border security discussed as envoy-designate Trivedi meets Indian army chief
Trivedi is first political appointee as high commissioner to Bangladesh
India's high commissioner-designate to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, called on the country's army chief General Upendra Dwivedi in New Delhi yesterday (22 May) ahead of assuming his diplomatic assignment in Dhaka.
The interaction focused on strengthening India-Bangladesh defence ties, border security and enhancing military-to-military engagement.
Trivedi, who has been appointed the new high commissioner to Bangladesh, is the first political appointee to the post in a long time, against the usual practice of appointing a senior Indian Foreign Service officer.
Trivedi is a BJP leader who was earlier with the Trinamool Congress.
