Armed pirates hijack 2 cargo ships with 22 Indians onboard
An official says the Indian crew members are safe.
Armed pirates hijacked two commercial vessels carrying 22 Indian nationals in separate incidents off Yemen and Somalia, an Indian shipping ministry official said today (21 August).
An Eritrea-flagged oil products tanker, MT Sibu 1, with 20 crew members, including 16 Indians, was hijacked in the Gulf of Aden, around 30 nautical miles off the coast of Yemen, yesterday, the official told PTI.
Earlier, a Cameroon-flagged cargo ship with six Indians among its 10 crew members was hijacked off Somalia's Puntland coast on Monday (17 August), he said.
The official said that according to the latest information, the Indian crew members are safe.
