US faces growing shipping crisis as Iran increases maritime pressure
Iran is escalating attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns over global oil prices, maritime security, and the upcoming US midterm elections. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is reportedly using small boats and traditional dhows to track vessels, while attacks have expanded into the Gulf of Oman and waters near Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
The United States is responding with a naval blockade of Iranian ports and expanded sanctions as shipping disruptions, rising marine insurance premiums, and higher transportation costs put pressure on international energy markets.
