Is Obama supporting Mamdani in the mayoral election?
Former President Barack Obama called New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani and praised his campaign. In a nearly 30-minute conversation, he called Mamdani's strategy excellent and expressed his interest in remaining as an advisor after the election. Although Obama did not directly endorse him, analysts see it as symbolic support. Mamdani, a 34-year-old Queens assemblyman, rose to political prominence in June when he defeated former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary. His rivals in the election are Republican Curtis Sliwa and independent candidate Cuomo.
