Iran Seizes Tanker in Gulf of Oman as US Disables Two Iranian Vessels
Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz are escalating after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps seized an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman, while U.S. Central Command reported disabling Iranian-flagged vessels during blockade operations. Direct exchanges of fire, accusations of air strikes on Qeshm Island, and retaliatory attacks near Chabahar have raised fears of a wider regional crisis.
Iran has also introduced new maritime rules through the Persian Gulf Strait Authority, requiring ships to obtain clearance and pay toll fees before crossing the strategic waterway. Meanwhile, Pakistan, Qatar, and U.S. Vice President JD Vance are involved in diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
