Strict surveillance over Iran's nuclear program, but how does Israel get exemptions?
The world system's dual behavior on the nuclear issue between Israel and Iran in the Middle East is clear. Although Israel is believed to have nuclear weapons, it is not subject to international scrutiny and enjoys Western support because it is outside the NPT treaty. In contrast, Iran, a signatory to the NPT, is under strict inspections, sanctions, and pressure—even though it claims its program is peaceful. This different behavior is determined primarily by geopolitics and alliances, not international law.
