Lenovo’s new concept laptop can charge itself from sunlight
Showcased at Mobile World Congress 2025 at Barcelona, the Yoga Solar PC is the first-of-its-kind laptop to have an integrated solar panel

Imagine leaving your laptop in the sun for 20 minutes and getting an hour's worth of battery life. That is the idea behind Lenovo's latest concept: a Yoga laptop with a built-in solar panel. The photovoltaic panel on the back of the screen converts sunlight into power, reducing the need for chargers.
This is an exciting development. While many tech companies show off futuristic designs, this one feels both practical and overdue. The Yoga Solar PC can still charge with a regular cable, but having the option to power up with sunlight is a game-changer. No more frantic searches for a power outlet—just leave it on a windowsill during lunch and return to a charged device.
According to TechRadar, The solar panel has an impressive energy conversion rate of over 24%, making it one of the most efficient photovoltaic cells available. Lenovo has also developed a 'Dynamic Solar Tracking System,' which optimizes battery use by prioritizing solar energy when available.
Solar-powered devices are not new, but this is the first ultrabook with an integrated solar panel. Acer offers a foldable solar panel for charging on the go, but Lenovo's design is built directly into the laptop. Although still a prototype, it looks ready for production.
Of course, there are challenges. Solar panels are fragile, and replacing one could be costly. Heat buildup is another concern, though Lenovo's demo showed minimal overheating. And the price is also likely to be high, if the concept comes as a product. But for outdoor enthusiasts and eco-conscious users, this could be a breakthrough.
