iPhone 16e: Worth the higher price tag?

Apple has introduced the new iPhone 16e, a new model in the iPhone 16 series. With the iPhone 16e, the classic home button and TouchID are now a thing of the past, as FaceID makes its way into the budget lineup.
The 16E follows the design of the iPhone 14 from 2022. It has a notch at the top for the front-facing camera and FaceID, rather than the Dynamic Island seen in Apple's flagship models.
With a 6.06-inch 60Hz OLED display, it is slightly smaller than the standard iPhone 16, which measures 6.12 inches.
Inside, the 16E runs on the A18 chip, the same processor as the iPhone 16. This makes it powerful enough to support Apple Intelligence, which includes advanced AI features like notification summaries. The 16e incorporates Apple's in-house 5G modem C1, which improves efficiency and connectivity.
The iPhone 16e boasts a 48-megapixel single rear camera, making it the only smartphone in 2025 to feature a lone rear lens, and it doubles as a 2x telephoto camera.
The phone also includes satellite-based features like Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, and Messages, ensuring connectivity even without cellular or Wi-Fi access.
The 16E includes Apple's Action Button, but it does not have the new Camera Control feature found in the iPhone 16 series. Although it has a USB-C charging port and wireless charging feature, it does not support MagSafe accessories or fast wireless charging.
Apple is taking preorders for the device and will ship it from 28 February. The price tag of the device has seen a steep jump — at $599, it is more expensive than the 2022 iPhone SE, which started at $429.
