French Ligue 1 soccer champions Paris Saint Germain have sacked German coach Thomas Tuchel, French paper L'Equipe and German paper Bild reported.

Just four months after leading Paris Saint-Germain to a first Champions League final, Thomas Tuchel has been dismissed by the French side with former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino touted to replace him.

As first reported by Bild, Tuchel, 47, leaves the Parc des Princes after two-and-a-half years in charge.

Thomas Tuchel has been sacked by PSG board, confirmed. Game over and new manager is coming. Official announcement expected soon. ??? @cfbayern #PSG #Tuchel— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) December 24, 2020

Pre-game, Tuchel had given an interview in his homeland in which he was quoted as saying he had, at times, felt more like "a sports politician or sports minister than a coach" during his tenure.

After the win over Strasbourg, he had attempted to clarify those comments to Canal+.

"I didn't say it's more about politics than sport, nor that I lost the fun of training. This is not true.. It is possible they translated incorrectly."

"It was a joke while we were talking and it is not allowed."

Mauricio Pochettino is now due to become the new PSG manager, according to Mohamed Bouhafsi.

The Argentine has been out of work since parting ways with Tottenham at the start of the 2019/20 season. In November Pochettino discussed his readiness to return to management, declaring on Monday Night Football: "I am always ready to go again and be involved in the game."
