Taskin breaks Shakib’s record for most wickets in a BPL season

The right-arm pacer claimed 24 wickets in just 11 matches for Durbar Rajshahi, surpassing Shakib Al Hasan’s six-year-old record of 23 wickets, which the all-rounder set during the 2019 season while playing for Dhaka Dynamites.

Taskin Ahmed has etched his name in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) record books by becoming the bowler with the most wickets in a single season.

The right-arm pacer claimed 24 wickets in just 11 matches for Durbar Rajshahi, surpassing Shakib Al Hasan's six-year-old record of 23 wickets, which the all-rounder set during the 2019 season while playing for Dhaka Dynamites.

Not only has Taskin broken Shakib's record, but he has also established himself as the most prolific Bangladeshi pacer in a single BPL edition.

Previously, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Rubel Hossain, and Shoriful Islam jointly held the record with 22 wickets each in different seasons.

Taskin's stellar performances have propelled him past these legends, making him a standout figure in the tournament's history.

From the very first match of the season, Taskin showcased exceptional rhythm and skill. His most remarkable achievement came on 2 January against Dhaka Capitals, where he delivered the best-ever bowling performance in BPL history. Taskin took 7 wickets for just 19 runs in his four overs, surpassing Mohammad Amir's previous record of 6 wickets for 17 runs, which the Pakistani pacer set in 2020.

This performance also elevated Taskin to the top among Bangladeshi bowlers in T20 cricket overall, breaking Shakib's record of 6 wickets for 6 runs, which the all-rounder had achieved in the 2013 Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Currently leading this season's wicket-takers' list, Taskin is well ahead of the second-placed Faheem Ashraf, who has taken 17 wickets. With one league match remaining for Durbar Rajshahi and potential playoff games on the horizon, Taskin has a solid chance to extend his tally and solidify his position at the top even further.

Taskin's performances have been pivotal for Durbar Rajshahi's campaign. The team is currently in fourth place on the points table with 10 points from 11 matches. A win in their final league match would bolster their chances of securing a playoff spot, potentially giving Taskin more opportunities to add to his record-breaking tally.

This milestone marks yet another high point in Taskin's remarkable journey of redemption. After being dropped from Bangladesh's 2019 World Cup squad, the pacer worked tirelessly to improve his fitness, skills, and consistency.

Over the past few years, he has grown into a leader of Bangladesh's pace attack, delivering match-winning performances both at home and overseas.

By setting new benchmarks in the BPL, Taskin Ahmed has not only cemented his legacy as one of the finest pacers in the tournament's history but has also reinforced his reputation as a world-class bowler capable of delivering under pressure.
