Tanzim Sakib faces disciplinary action for code of conduct breach

Just a few days ago, Tamim Iqbal was penalised following a post-match altercation, receiving a demerit point and an official warning for breaching the code of conduct. Now, Tanzim Hasan Sakib finds himself in hot water for the same reason but has faced even harsher punishment.

The Sylhet Strikers' right-arm pacer has been handed three demerit points and fined 50% of his match fee. The incident took place during the BPL match between Sylhet Strikers and Khulna Tigers on Sunday at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, where Tanzim was charged with a Level-2 breach of the code of conduct.

Match referee Ehsanul Haque, who imposed the punishment, confirmed the decision himself. "We have awarded him three demerit points along with a fine of 50% of his match fee," said the local match referee.

The incident occurred in the 19th over of Khulna's chase. Unable to read one of Tanzim's slower deliveries, Khulna's Pakistani all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz was bowled out. As Nawaz started walking back, Tanzim moved forward and intentionally shouldered Nawaz.

This sparked a heated verbal exchange between the two, with both appearing ready to confront each other physically. Teammates intervened and managed to calm Tanzim down, while one of Sylhet's fielders escorted Nawaz partway off the field.

After the match, Sylhet captain Ariful Haque explained that Tanzim's behaviour was driven by the aggression typical of fast bowlers, calling it a spur-of-the-moment act. Sylhet went on to defeat Khulna by eight runs.
