Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Under-19 world cup winning captain Akbar Ali shined in the intra-squad 20-over practice match at Mirpur today. The High Performance (HP) team divided into two teams - Team "A" and Team "B" - played a T20 match among each other where Team "B", led by Towhid Hridoy, won by a massive 100-run margin.
Blistering Tamim, accompanied by Akbar
Batting first, Team "B" posted 194 runs from their allotted 20 overs. Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim scored a blistering fifty. He and Parvez Hossain Emon's quickfire 60-run partnership from just 5.1 overs gave Team "B" a solid start. Emon went back to the pavilion scoring 31 from 17 balls with one boundary and three maximums.
Tamim however kept on going. Team 'B" lost two early wickets after that. Akbar Ali came on to bat after 3 wickets fell down and he supported Tamim pretty well. He himself scored 47 off 20 balls, something very unlikely of Akbar. He hit two boundaries and four over-boundaries in his cameo innings.
Junior Tamim, who has been hyped so much for his name, played a fine innings. He ended up scoring 73 runs from 46 balls. He played shots all around the ground. Hit six boundaries and five maximums. He literally dominated the bowlers.
Afif's brilliance with the ball
Afif Hossain Dhrubo had a fine day with the ball. The Team "A" captain bagged 3 wickets from his 4 overs giving away only 23 runs. He broke the blistering opening partnership of 60 runs from Emon and Tamim, trapped Mahmudul Hasan Joy for lbw and got Towhid Hridoy. These three early had Team "B" in backfoot, but Tamim and Akbar got them out of danger.
Apart from the skipper, Shafiqul Islam bagged two wickets but was terribly expensive.
Batting collapse by Team "A"
Team "A" had a massive chase in front of them, they needed a quickfire start, instead, they collapsed like a house of cards.
Only two batsmen got into double figures among them and were all out for a mere 94 runs in 17 overs. Naim Sheikh was the highest scorer with 28 runs in his bag.
Rejaur Rahman Raja picked up three wickets while Shahin Alam, Rishad Hossain, and Muqidul Islam Mugdho bagged a brace each.
The HP squad played a four-day match, a 50-over match among them before today.
