Shakib features in team of the tournament

Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan featured in the ICC’s Team of the Tournament of the ICC Men’s World Cup.

Right after the thrilling final between hosts England and New Zealand, the ICC announced their team of the tournament. Kane Williamson, who led New Zealand to their second successive final of the event, was named as the captain.

Shakib scored 606 runs in the World Cup with five fifties and two centuries. He amassed a total of seven 50-plus scores in the tournament. At the same time, he scalped 11 wickets as well.

He is the only cricketer on the planet to score more than 600 runs and take more than 10 wickets in the same edition of the World Cup. Riding on this fabulous all-round performance, Shakib was a super easy choice in the ICC’s Team of the Tournament.

Shakib was the only left-arm spinner in the team, and the only cricketer from Bangladesh as well.

England’s explosive batsman Jason Roy and India’s Rohit Sharma were named as the opening pair of the team while Kane Williamson, Joe Root and Shakib selected as the middle-order batsmen.

Ben Stokes came as the lone pace-bowling all-rounder and Australia’s Alex Carey got chance as the wicketkeeper while Mitchell Starc, Jofra Archer, Lockie Ferguson and Jasprit Bumrah were named in the pace-attack. New Zealand’s Trent Boult was named as the 12th man.

ICC’s Team of the Tournament: Rohit Sharma, Jason Roy, Kane Williamson (captain), Joe Root, Shakib Al Hasan, Ben Stokes, Alex Carey (wicketkeeper), Mitchell Starc, Jofra Archer, Lockie Ferguson, Jasprit Bumrah.
