Former England captain Kevin Pietersen has been appointed team mentor for Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League season. The 44-year-old, who led the franchise in 2014, returns to a side he last played for in the IPL two years later.
Pietersen, known for his bold and unconventional batting style, has remained a prominent figure in cricket as an outspoken TV analyst in recent years. Announcing his return, he shared his enthusiasm on social media:
"I'm so excited to come home to Delhi! I have the fondest memories of my time with Delhi. I love the city, I love the fans, and I'll do everything I can to support the franchise in our quest for the title in 2025!"
He joins a backroom staff led by head coach Hemang Badani, with Matthew Mott as assistant coach, Munaf Patel overseeing the bowling department, and Venugopal Rao serving as director of cricket.
Delhi Capitals, yet to win an IPL title since the tournament's inception in 2008, have reached the final once. They finished sixth last season and made headlines by parting ways with Rishabh Pant, who moved to Lucknow Super Giants for a record-breaking 270 million rupees ($3.2 million) in the November auction.
With the IPL's 18th edition set to begin on 22 march, Delhi are yet to confirm their captain for the upcoming campaign.
