Mustafizur joins Kolkata at a record IPL price for a Bangladeshi player
Creating a storm at the IPL auction table, the Kolkata Knight Riders secured the services of the experienced Bangladesh pacer.
At one point, it seemed the deal would be sealed at ₹4.6 crore. For quite some time, there was no response from either side. But just before the hammer came down, the battle reignited at the last moment. Mustafizur Rahman's price began to rise rapidly. Eventually, it stopped at ₹9.2 crore. Creating a storm at the IPL auction table, the Kolkata Knight Riders secured the services of the experienced Bangladesh pacer.
This is the highest salary ever paid to a Bangladeshi cricketer in the IPL. The previous record also belonged to Mustafizur. In the last IPL, he was signed by the Delhi Capitals for ₹6 crore. However, that deal was an off-auction replacement and not for the entire season. Until now, the most expensive Bangladeshi player at the auction table had been Mashrafe Bin Mortaza. In the 2009 IPL, he was bought by Kolkata for US$600,000, which, at the exchange rate at the time, amounted to just over ₹4 crore.
