Monon Reza stuns Czech grandmaster in Budapest

On Tuesday, 1 october, the 14-year-old FIDE Master and national champion of Bangladesh defeated Czech Republic's Grandmaster Plat Vojtěch in the second round.

Bangladeshi chess prodigy Monon Reza Neer pulled off a major upset at the 'Six Day Budapest Two Years Grandmasters' chess tournament in Hungary.

Playing with the white pieces, Monon triumphed over Vojtěch in 54 moves, marking a significant victory in his young career. The previous day, 30 september, Monon had drawn his first-round match against India's FIDE Master Krishnan Hridhvik.

In the 'Grandmasters Chess C' event, Bangladesh's International Master Fahad Rahman has collected 1.5 points from his two matches. On Tuesday, Fahad defeated Indonesia's FIDE Master Susilodinata Andrian in the second round. He had earlier drawn his first-round match with Kyrgyzstan's FIDE Master Mamatov Milis.

Meanwhile, in the 'International Masters Chess A' event, Bangladesh's FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia secured half a point from his match. In the Under-2250 Rating Event, Woman FIDE Master Wadiya Ahmed has taken the joint lead with two points from her two matches. In the same event, Woman Candidate Master Waliza Ahmed has earned half a point from her two matches.

Bangladesh's rising stars continue to make their mark on the international stage, with Monon's latest victory adding another feather to the nation's cap.
