The appointment marks an important milestone for Chowdhury as a Bangladeshi professional working in the United Kingdom, particularly within the football industry which has historically been one of the least diverse sports in the region.

Mehzeb Chowdhury appointed member of IAG for Newcastle United

English Premier League's club Newcastle United FC (NUFC) have appointed Dr Mehzeb Chowdhury as member of its influential Independent Advisory Group (IAG). 

The appointment marks an important milestone for Chowdhury as a Bangladeshi professional working in the United Kingdom, particularly within the football industry which has historically been one of the least diverse sports in the region.

Mehzeb Chowdhury is the son of Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, chief editor of the Daily Manabzamin, only tabloid newspaper in Bangladesh, and editor of the newspaper Mahbuba Chowdhury.

Mehzeb is currently working as an assistant professor at Northumbria University in United Kingdom has worked in a range of industries showing a strong commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion. As an author, inventor, journalist, filmmaker and researcher, he has been appointed to bring his unique perspective and knowledge to the IAG, including contributing to the Club's football priorities.

Earlier in the year, Chowdhury was appointed as an Inclusion Advisory Board (IAB) Member at England's premier grassroots  football development and governance organization Northumberland Football Association. His involvement there, and at Newcastle United, will provide an essential perspective, helping to shape strategies and initiatives that promote good practice and governance at both professional and grassroots levels.

Mehzeb Chowdhury is associated with football for a long time. He previously worked for the popular football media Gold.com, ESPN, Bleacher Report and vital football. Mehzeb, who has been appointed for the next three seasons, will work with Newcastle United staff, management and supporters on key projects.

NUFC is an English Premier League football club based in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Founded in 1892, the club has a rich history and a strong fan base, finishing 4th in the EPL in the 2022/23 season. In doing so, Newcastle United will play in the 2023/24 season of the UEFA Champion's League.
