The Argentine Professional Football League (LPF) and the Argentine Football Association (AFA) will not be able to name their competitions after Diego Maradona for legal reasons, Marca reported.

According to Marca, both the LPF and the AFA had intended to honour the World Cup winner after his death in November 2020. However, the two organisations were notified by Maradona's lawyer, Matias Morla, that the naming rights to the former footballer belong to his company, SATTVICA.

In order to name the Primera Division and other competitions after Maradona, the LPF and AFA would have to get SATTVICA's permission. The company was created in 2015 and registered the commercial rights to "Diego Armando Maradona", "Maradona", "El 10", "La Mano de Dios", "Diegol", "Diego Maradona" and "El Diego".

According to Doble Amarilla, both the LPF and AFA still intend to name their competitions after the late Maradona once the legal details are sorted out.

The Argentine Primera Division will start its season on February 12, with the fixture draw taking place on Wednesday.
