Kohli honours Shakib with special bat after Kanpur Test

In a heartfelt tribute following the Kanpur Test, Indian star Virat Kohli presented a signed bat to Bangladesh's veteran all-rounder Shakib al Hasan, potentially marking a poignant farewell to Shakib's illustrious Test career.

Shakib had hinted prior to the second Test that it could be his last in the longest format, as he may not feature in upcoming home Test matches for Bangladesh. This context added an emotional depth to Kohli's gesture, as it followed a warm exchange between the two players after the post-match presentation, where India revelled in their series victory. Shakib was gifted a bat from Rishabh Pant as well.

India secured a commanding 2-0 series win with a seven-wicket triumph in the second Test held on 1 October. Despite a quieter series overall, Shakib's performance in the first innings of the Kanpur Test stood out, with figures of 4/78 demonstrating his enduring skill. Although his contributions with bat and ball were not as impactful during this series, Shakib's career achievements in Test cricket are nothing short of remarkable.

If this indeed marks Shakib's final Test, his legacy is firmly entrenched in the record books. Across 71 Test matches, he has amassed 4,609 runs and taken 246 wickets, establishing himself as one of Bangladesh's greatest cricketers. His all-round capabilities have earned him iconic status, not only in his home country but also in the global cricketing community.

Kohli's thoughtful gesture not only commemorated Shakib's decorated career but also highlighted the camaraderie that exists beyond the competitive nature of the sport. It was a fitting salute to a player who has profoundly influenced cricket and inspired countless fans around the world.
