Gulshan’s controversial win over Shinepukur headlines DPL
The Dhaka Premier League (DPL) provided a feast of thrilling cricket on 09 April, with Gulshan, Mohammedan, and Abahani all securing important wins in dramatic fashion.

Gulshan secured a narrow 5-run victory against Shinepukur Cricket Club in a match that was marred by several questionable moments. Rahim Ahmed's bizarre dismissal was the first of many odd incidents. Attempting to play a shot down the wicket off Nihad Uz Zaman, Rahim failed to get the bat on the ball, and TV replays revealed that he didn't even try to move into the line of the delivery. At the time of his dismissal, Shinepukur still needed 36 runs from 89 balls, and Rahim's dismissal added to the mounting doubts about the integrity of the match.
The controversy continued in the final stages of the match when Shinepukur, chasing 173, needed 7 runs with one wicket remaining and 7 overs left. An incredible moment occurred involving Minhajul Sabbir. In the 44th over, captain Azizul Hakim Tamim handed the ball to the experienced Naim Islam. Wicketkeeper Alif Hossain Imon gave a timely warning to Naim, saying, "Naim Bhai, he might take a chance." Heeding this, Naim bowled a wide outside off-stump, anticipating Minhajul's tendency to come down the wicket. Minhajul failed to play the ball and was stumped after a brief but dramatic moment where he attempted to get back into the crease but failed to do so.
TV replays confirmed that Minhajul had almost made it back into the popping crease with his bat, but at the last moment, he failed to do so. Minhajul was dismissed for just 8 runs off 34 balls, and with that, Shinepukur's hopes were dashed, losing by 5 runs. This victory moved Gulshan to 3rd place on the table with 13 points.
Amit's century in vain as Mohammedan defeat Agrani by 74 runs
Mohammedan Sporting Club kept their push for the top spot alive with a 74-run victory over Agrani Bank Cricket Club. Despite a brilliant century from Amit Hasan, Agrani couldn't quite manage to chase down Mohammedan's competitive total, thanks to some fine bowling from Ibadat Hossain and Mehedi Hasan Miraz.
Mohammedan, batting first, posted 287 runs for 7 wickets, with contributions from Mahidul Islam Ankon (50), Mushfiqur Rahim (75*), and Tawhid Hriday (42). Amit's effort with the bat was exceptional, scoring 105 runs from 123 balls, but it was Mohammedan's bowlers who dominated in the second innings. Agrani's chase faltered as they lost wickets consistently throughout their innings. Ibadat and Miraz claimed a combined six wickets, restricting Agrani to just 213 runs.
Early wickets were the downfall for Agrani. Ibadat dismissed Imranuzzaman and Sadman Islam early on, while Nasum Ahmed got rid of Pritam Kumar. A solid 64-run partnership between Amit and Marshall Ayub (37) brought hope for Agrani, but wickets continued to fall, and no one could match Amit's efforts. Mohammedan's bowlers applied pressure, and Agrani never fully recovered, ending their innings 74 runs short of their target.
With this win, Mohammedan remain in 2nd place with 16 points, still trailing leaders Abahani, who are sitting pretty at the top with 18 points.
Mosaddek's all-round brilliance leads Abahani
Abahani proved their title credentials with a dominant 133-run win over Prime Bank, thanks to an exceptional all-round performance from Mosaddek Hossain Saikat. After contributing 37 runs with the bat, Mosaddek starred with the ball, taking 3 wickets to lead his team to an impressive victory.
Abahani posted a competitive total of 290 runs for 9 wickets, with Parvez Hossain Imon (79) and Nazmul Hossain Shanto (58) contributing significant partnerships. Parvez, who had broken the record for the fastest 50 in the previous match, added 79 runs off 71 balls, including 6 fours and 5 sixes. Shanto followed suit with an innings of 58 runs off 70 balls, comprising 4 fours and 3 sixes. After their dismissals, Mosaddek's quickfire 37 off 42 balls, coupled with Ripon Mondol's 17 off 9 balls, helped Abahani post a total that proved too much for Prime Bank.
In response, Prime Bank's chase fell apart against the spinners, Mosaddek and Rakibul Hasan, who shared 5 wickets. Prime Bank were bowled out for 157 runs in 32 overs, with only Naeem Sheikh (73) and Shamim Hossain (40) offering any real resistance. Ibadat Hossain also played a key role with the ball for Abahani, contributing to the victory with his crucial breakthroughs.
This win consolidated Abahani's position at the top of the table, with 18 points, as they continue to lead the DPL title race.
