Five Bangladeshi female footballers have travelled to Bhutan to participate in the Bhutan National Women's League, further strengthening the representation of Bangladesh in the competition.
The players, who left Dhaka on Sunday morning, will join the league alongside four others who had already made the journey on 6 April.
The players heading to Thimphu are: Masura Parvin, Rupna Chakma, Sanjida Akhtar, Maria Manda, and Shamsunnahar Senior. Masura and Rupna will play for Thimphu City FC, while Sanjida, Maria, and Shamsunnahar will represent Transport United.
Forward Krishna Rani Sarkar was also selected for the Transport United squad but, due to delays in obtaining her work permit, she was unable to travel with the others.
Earlier, on 6 April, four senior players – Sabina Khatun, Matsushima Sumaiya, Monica Chakma, and Rituporna Chakma – had travelled to Bhutan to play for Paro FC. National women's team coach Peter Butler resumed training with the senior squad on 7 April following his return from a break, but none of the 18 senior players have yet signed official contracts with the Bangladesh Football Federation.
The Bhutan Women's Football League is set to begin on 25 April 2025 and will run for four months. The participation of these Bangladeshi footballers is expected to bring added excitement to the competition this season.
