Fielding a leg-spinner should not be obligatory, says Rangpur team director
Though this year’s edition is inclined more towards producing young talents, but the teams will not take things lightly and will do their best to win, as this is a competitive tournament.

Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) new rule of playing a leg-spinner and a fast bowler every match needs proper conditions to implement. The current conditions might not be conducive for a leg-spinner and a bowler who could bowl over 140 kilometres per hour (kph). Also, teams participating in this year's special edition of BPL have concerns regarding their team combination.
Though this year's edition is inclined more towards producing young talents, as this is a competitive tournament, teams will not take things lightly and will do the best to win. Team Director of Rangpur Rangers, Enayet Husain Siraji hinted at that and said despite the new rule, team combination will be a priority.
"To bowl at 140+, there must be proper conditions for that. This is the first thing. Secondly, there is a concern about the team combination. We will prioritize fielding a leg-spinner." said Siraji.
Also, Siraji thought that playing a leg-spinner and a 140+ fast bowler should be taken as a priority, not something as mandatory.
"I do not think there is anything obligatory. This is being prioritized because we do not have enough leg spinners. But there is nothing such as this in the playing conditions (of the tournament). We will try to field a leg-spinner for the national interest."
His views, however, contradicted with another BCB Director Mahbub Anam's remark. Anam had said that it was a must for the teams to field a leg-spinner.
Rangpur name Nabi as captain, unveil new kits
Rangpur Rangers announced their skipper and unveiled their jersey for the tournament. Veteran Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi will take the lead on the field for rangers.
Nabi expressed his gratitude to the management for choosing him as captain and said that Bangladesh was nothing unfamiliar to him as he has been playing here for the recent 8-9 years.
Many of the squad members have not arrived yet for Rangpur Rangers. But the captain was not worried about that and had complete faith in the experience of the players.
"The overseas players of our teams are quite experienced from playing all over the world. They are used to arrive on the day and play. So I do not think that this is such a big issue." Nabi said.
Nabi was confident about his team's bowling prowess comprising of two of the best local bowlers, Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed, "This is a very strong bowling unit (with Mustafiz, Taskin and Junaid). We will try to put some runs on the board and then we will try to do well in bowling." Nabi added.
Though Mustafizur Rahman suffered from a loss of form in recent times, Nabi backed his premier bowler to come good at the right time. "Mustafiz being out of form is not a big concern for us. He will return to his true self." said the skipper
