BCB hopes to host BPL games in Rajshahi next year

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is aiming to host Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) matches at the Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi next year, alongside plans to launch a regional premier league in the division.
"We need to improve the facilities at this ground in order to host more international matches. We have already held discussions with the National Sports Council (NSC) and submitted a proposal. I hope the NSC will take on this project, and that we'll be able to witness international fixtures and BPL matches here sometime next year," said BCB Grounds Committee Chairman Mahbub Anam, speaking to the media at the Rajshahi stadium today.
The visit by senior BCB officials formed part of the celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of Bangladesh being granted Test status.
BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul, also in attendance, emphasised the board's commitment to decentralising cricket, announcing plans to launch a new league in the Rajshahi division.
"We will establish a premier league here in Rajshahi. Cricketing activities will be expanded, including more training camps, coaching sessions, and umpiring programmes. We also intend to convert the age-group tournaments currently held here into two-day matches," Bulbul stated.
The Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium currently hosts age-group tournaments on an occasional basis and recently staged a three-match series between Bangladesh and South Africa Emerging teams.
Strong crowd attendance during that series has encouraged the BCB to further invest in developing the venue and increasing its cricketing calendar.
