Bangladesh women’s football team to play friendly series in Jordan
The matches, scheduled for 31 May and 3 June, will provide the team with valuable preparation against higher-ranked opponents before their competitive qualifiers begin.
Ahead of the Women's Asian Cup qualifiers in September, the Bangladesh women's football team will travel to Jordan for a crucial tri-nation friendly series against the host nation and Indonesia.
The matches, scheduled for 31 May and 3 June, will provide the team with valuable preparation against higher-ranked opponents before their competitive qualifiers begin.
The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) arranged the friendly series as part of the team's build-up to the Asian Cup qualifiers. With Jordan ranked 74th and Indonesia ranked 94th in the FIFA standings, both teams provide tough competition for Bangladesh, who are ranked 133rd. BFF Women's Wing Chairperson Mahfuza Akter Kiran confirmed that the team will depart for Jordan on 27 May to ensure ample time for training prior to the matches.
"We wanted our team to face stronger opposition before the qualifiers, to give both the players and the coach a better understanding of how well we have prepared," said Kiran. "These matches will be crucial for our progress, and we believe they will benefit the team in the long run."
In addition to the friendly series, 10 senior players from the national squad are currently in Bhutan, competing in the local league. Kiran added that whether these players will join the team in Jordan will depend on their performance and fitness. "It is up to the coach to decide if the players in Bhutan will join the team based on their performance. The coach will assess the situation, and we will take the necessary steps accordingly," she explained.
