Perspective: Where art imitates life
‘Perspective’ blends mediums and stories from 32 renowned artists, concluding today at Alliance Française’s La Galerie

Human beings have a unique way of preserving moments they wish to remember, whether joyful or painful. Writing, art, photography, and videos all serve as mediums for capturing and holding onto those snippets of time. However, one person's reality can differ entirely from another's—it all hinges on individual interpretation.
Launched on 9 January as part of the Dhaka International Film Festival, the 'Perspective' art exhibition at Alliance Français's La Galerie concludes tomorrow. Visitors can explore the works of 32 renowned artists across various mediums, all displayed in a single expansive room. It's a must-visit for art lovers eager to experience the diverse expressions of talented artists in one space.
"Here, you'll find numerous pieces that have captured moments for future generations to witness. For instance, artwork featuring 'Putul Ghora' (doll horses), a forgotten craft revived in the digital pixel medium. There are also intricate line works by artists, where every stroke recites a new story. A total of 32 pieces come together, each reflecting a distinct tale," said Lutfa Mahmuda, artist and curator.
Mahmuda believes the most fascinating aspect of this exhibition is how it showcases the stories, styles, and techniques these artists bring to life. You'll find pastel work, acrylics, outlines, shadows, highlights, line compositions, and fabric art—various contemporary creations in one space.
"With the film festival happening now, it's worth noting that paintings were among the earliest inspirations for filmmakers, as both are forms of visual art," Mahmuda added.
The artworks have been arranged in a way that ensures each piece stands out without being overshadowed by others. With a variety of mediums on display, every piece is positioned to enhance its visual impact and create an immersive experience for the viewer.
"One painting, 'Romoni,' by the late artist Nurul Islam, offers a glimpse into the colours and techniques of his time, contrasting beautifully with modern styles. This is what makes the exhibition so special—the sheer versatility it showcases," Mahmuda concluded.
