Magic Bauliana returns with fifth season to promote bengali folk heritage

Magic Bauliana, the country's largest folk reality show, returns for its fifth season to spotlight emerging Bengali folk music talents.
The announcement was made at a press conference on 7 August at a five-star hotel in Dhaka.
The initiative, backed by the Sun Foundation, is sponsored by Square Toiletries Limited, broadcast on Maasranga Television, and managed by Mediacom Limited, with Bishwo Rang as the wardrobe partner.
Present at the press conference were Malik Mohammad Sayeed, CEO of Square Toiletries Limited; Ajay Kumar Kundu, CEO of Mediacom Limited and Executive Director of Maasranga Television; and Dr. Jasmin Zaman, Head of Marketing at Square Toiletries Limited.
Launched in 2013, Magic Bauliana has played a pivotal role in reviving Baul and folk music for a younger generation. The competition has already featured popular artists such as Iti Ibrahim, Kamruzzaman Rabbi, and Nayan Sutradhar. Through the initiative, a music archive titled Lokogaaner Shuddho Shongkolon has also been published to preserve authentic folk compositions.
This season's judging panel features noted musicians Shafi Mondol, Partha Barua, and Nigar Sultana Sumi.
Auditions will be open to aspiring singers from across the country, who can participate by registering through an official online portal or at designated venues. Shortlisted candidates from these auditions will then attend grooming sessions and participate in a master selection phase. The top performers from this stage will advance to studio rounds, with the season culminating in a grand finale to be aired on Maasranga TV.
Magic Bauliana now has nearly 200,000 YouTube subscribers, over 50 million views, and releases on major streaming platforms worldwide.
Speaking at the event, Malik Mohammad Sayeed noted, "Magic Bauliana is not just a music show—it is a movement to protect and promote our cultural roots."
The organisers reiterated their commitment to ensuring song ownership, royalties, and fair assessments for all participants, supporting the professional development of emerging talents both locally and internationally.
