John Wick prequel The Continental disappoints

'The Continental', a miniseries based in the world of 'John Wick', was released on 22 September and the reception of it has been quite disappointing in contrast with the anticipation.
The plot of the series takes place 70 years before the events of 'John Wick'. But as viewers would expect, the series does only little to provide any new information about the inception or the operations of the hotel. Instead, the show adds an emotional backdrop that contrasts with the films' deliberate emphasis on simplicity and artistry.
The reviews from various sources like IGN and Variety were absolutely appalling. IGN rated the series a 5 out of 10 whereas Variety slammed the casting choice and deviation from the 'John Wick' style storytelling.
The show starred Mel Gibson (Cormac) and Colin Goodwell (Winston Scott) in lead roles.
