Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 promises the biggest shake-up in years

Treyarch and Raven Software have unveiled 'Call of Duty: Black Ops 7' at gamescom 2025, hailing it as the series' boldest step in over a decade. Set in 2035, the campaign introduces mind-bending fear-toxin missions inspired by Batman's Scarecrow, with warped cityscapes and surreal horrors alongside new movement mechanics such as Mega Jumps and wall runs.
For the first time since Black Ops 3, the entire 11-mission story is fully co-op, with squads of up to four tackling both narrative-driven levels and a replayable open-world endgame, Avalon. Here, players must survive escalating challenges, though squad wipes reset all progress.
Multiplayer also sees sweeping changes, including new weapons, a "Skirmish" 20v20 mode, looping scorestreaks, and weapon prestige systems. Zombies returns with a Dark Aether focus and the revival of Dead Ops Arcade.
Far from "lazy", Black Ops 7 looks set to redefine Call of Duty's future when it launches later this year.
