The Bigfoot

Among all the mythical creatures that exist in popular culture or folklores, Bigfoot is the one that has raised the most questions over the years - particularly in North America.

Historians and travellers have spent many years looking for the ape-like monster. Many people believe that it is not only a mythical character but some believe that it actually exists somewhere out there among humans.

The legend of Bigfoot dates beyond recorded history in different parts of the world. Popular tales describes that the creature is a seven foot tall hairy man stalking the woods, occasionally scaring campers, lumberjacks, hikers and hunters in various parts of North America.

Those who claim to have seen Bigfoot described the creature as a large, upright ape. Some also claim that it is an actual hairy eight feet tall human.

Bigfoot has different names in different cultures. Sasquatch is one of them. Sometimes, the unseen monster is mistaken as Witiko or Wendigo.

In many countries, the creature is believed to be a man with special powers and characteristics who lives in the forests.

From the 1800s to 1900s, many evidences such as footprints and irregular encounters with unseen apes were found, adding mystery to the possibility of the Bigfoot's existence.

Till today, the debate continues and there are many organisations dedicated to the research and investigation of Bigfoot sightings in the United States.
The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organisation (BFRO) is the oldest and largest organisation which is constantly conducting research to find Bigfoot across the US.

The organisation also provides a free database to individuals and other organizations as well.

In 2016, the University of New Mexico arranged a two-day "Bigfoot conference."  This mysterious mythical creature has created great impact as a popular culture phenomenon.

Joshua Blu Buhs wrote non-fiction book titled, "Bigfoot: The Life and Times of a Legend" in 2009 which was published by the University of Chicago Press.

The book describes the history of the concept of Bigfoot, as well as hoaxers, and examines the cultural influences of the myths.

The book also compares Bigfoot with its counterpart - Yeti.

Unless Bigfoot is proven to be alive, the search for it will continue as Bigfoots buffs believe that the creature is more than a myth. Only time can say whether Bigfoot is a myth or not, as scientists are also interested to find out details about the legend of Bigfoot.
