Amazon reveals first look at Kratos, Atreus in 'God of War' TV show
The cast also includes Teresa Palmer as Sif, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor and Mandy Patinkin as Odin.
Amazon has shared the first image from its highly anticipated "God of War" series, featuring Kratos and Atreus.
The production of the show was officially announced yesterday (27 February) alongside the tagline: "Their journey to the highest peak begins."
The photo showcases Ryan Hurst portraying Kratos and Callum Vinson, known for roles in "Chucky," "Long Bright River" and "Poker Face," as Atreus.
Fans have already noted that this version of Atreus presents a younger interpretation compared to his video game counterpart.
An official description for the character says, "Atreus, the 10-year-old son of Kratos, grew up in a remote forest cabin, isolated from the rest of the world and raised almost entirely by his mother, Faye.
"He is an accomplished archer, has an affinity for animals and is intensely curious about what lies beyond the confines of his forest home. After his mother's death, Atreus is left with a cold, distant father who he barely knows and who knows little about him in return.
"Nonetheless, Atreus yearns for his father's approval and is desperate to prove he is strong enough to survive in a harsh and dangerous world."
Hurst, who played Thor in the 2022 game "God of War Ragnarok," adds depth to the narrative, where "through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human."
The cast also includes Teresa Palmer as Sif, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor and Mandy Patinkin as Odin.
Alastair Duncan returns as Mimir, with new cast members Danny Woodburn as Brok and Jeff Gulka as Sindri. Ed Skrein, known for his role in Deadpool, will portray Baldur.
Filming is currently underway in Vancouver, and the series has been ordered for two seasons, with Ronald D Moore, celebrated for "Battlestar Galactica" and "Star Trek Deep Space Nine," serving as showrunner.
The adaptation was first announced in 2022, but after some initial challenges, including the departure of former showrunner Rafe Judkins, the project has now found a new creative path, with Moore taking the lead in late 2024.
Frederick EO Toye, who has worked on "Shogun" and "The Boys," is set to direct the first two episodes.
The new "God of War" series is a collaboration between PlayStation Productions, Tall Ship Productions, Sony and Amazon.
Executive producers include longtime "God of War" writer and director Cory Barlog, along with Hermen Hulst from Sony Interactive Entertainment.
As of now, Amazon and Sony have not yet revealed a release date for the "God of War" series.
