A case was filed against 39 leaders and activists of Awami League and Jatiya Party, including former Jatiya Party MP Mashiur Rahman Ranga and former Awami League MP Asaduzzaman Bablu, with Gangachara Model Police Station on Monday (18 November).

Some 250 to 260 people have been named as unidentified accused in this case.

"Abdullah Al Babu, joint general secretary of Gangachara upazila Jatiyatabadi Tanti Dal, filed the case at Gangachara model police station on Monday," Sub-Inspector David Himadri Barma of the police station told local reporters this afternoon (19 November).

They have been charged with obstructing the anti-discrimination student movement and attacking the BNP party office, vandalizing, looting, robbing and harassing the general public.

The other accused in the case are Jitu, son of former MP Mashiur Rahman Ranga, former organizing secretary of the Gangachara Upazila Jatiya Party Mominur Islam Momin, and former upazila chairman and upazila Awami League president Md Ruhul Amin, its general secretary Md Azizul Islam, upazila Awami League publicity and publication secretary Abdul Matin Ovi, Gajoghontha union parishad chairman Liaqat Ali, Gangachara Sadar union parishad chairman Mazharul Islam Lebu, Mornea union parishad chairman Zillur Rahman, Jubo League leader Ataur Rahman, former Chhatra League general secretary Shahjalal and others.

The case statement mentions that the accused are leaders, activists and supporters of the 14-party grand alliance, Awami League, Jubo League, Swechchasebak League and allied organisations.

During the 15 years of the previous regime, there were activities that violated law and order in the area, including obstructing the implementation of peaceful political programs, curtailing freedom of speech, attacking party offices, filing false cases against BNP leaders and activists, publicly threatening to kill them, and various forms of oppression and oppression.

In this situation, on July 19, the BNP party office adjacent to the Dak Bungalow was vandalized and about 250 to 260 people, including the accused, attacked, looted, and robbed a peaceful protest called by the anti-discrimination student movement.
