Police today (18 October) arrested two people over allegations of stealing cash from the donation boxes of Sarbajanin Brajdham Puja Mandir in Chattogram city's West Goalpara area.

The arrestees were identified as Jahidul Alam Sani, 20, and Mohammad Helal, 24. Police also recovered Tk4,500 from their possession, said Kazi Mohammad Tarek Aziz, additional deputy commissioner (media) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police.

The temple's General Secretary Rana Das noticed the theft yesterday morning.

"When he arrived at the temple around 7:30am to offer puja, he found the gate open and two donation boxes broken. Upon inspecting the premises, he realised that approximately Tk70,000 had been stolen from the boxes," Tarek said.

"Video footage from the temple's CCTV cameras revealed that two individuals broke into the temple at 5:35am on the same day and looted the donation boxes. Following Rana Das's complaint, Kotwali police registered a case and assigned the investigation to Sub-Inspector Rabiul Hossain," he added.
