Bangladesh announce squad for emerging Asia Cup, with Emon leading the team

Bangladesh have revealed their squad for the upcoming Emerging Asia Cup, featuring several players from the national team.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made the announcement on Sunday, 12 October.

Parvez Hossain Emon, the 22-year-old batter who was part of the recent T20 series against India, has been named captain despite his struggles in that series. He scored 8 in Gwalior, 16 in Delhi, and registered a golden duck in Hyderabad during the whitewash.

Joining Emon in the squad are fellow national team players Towhid Hridoy, Zakir Ali Anik, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib. All three had a tough time in the India series, although Tanzim did manage to claim five wickets in two matches. Zakir scored just 9 runs in two games, while Hridoy made 77 runs across three matches.

Akbar Ali, who led Bangladesh to their historic U-19 World Cup win in 2020, is also included in the squad, alongside mystery spinner Alis Al Islam. Former national team regulars Naim Sheikh and Shamim Hossain Patwary have also been named.

The sixth edition of the Emerging Asia Cup will be held in Oman from 18 to 27 October, with this year's competition being played in the T20 format. Pakistan and Sri Lanka have each won the title twice, while India have claimed the trophy once.

Bangladesh Emerging Squad: Akbar Ali (captain), Saif Hassan (vice-captain), Parvez Hossain Emon, Naim Sheikh, Jishan Alam, Towhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain, Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby, Rakibul Hasan, Alis Al Islam, Wasi Siddiquee, Abu Hider Rony, Rejaur Rahman Raja, Ripon Mondol, Maruf Mridha.

Reserves: Jaker Ali Anik, Sheikh Mahedi Hasan, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Nasum Ahmed.
