Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed has announced a plan to set up a separate secretariat for the judiciary to ensure an independent judicial system.

The CJ made the announcement during a speech in front of 2,000 judges of subordinate courts across the country at the Inner Garden of the Supreme Court today (21 September), during which he presented a roadmap for the judiciary.

"I have asked for the government's help to ensure the independence of the judiciary. This is why a separate secretariat will be established. It will be operated under the Supreme Court," he said.

"Separate policies will be formulated for the promotion of judges. Also, a rule is needed for the appointment of Supreme Court justices," the CJ added.
