At 37 years and 181 days old, Shakib surpassed former left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafique, who was 37 years and 180 days when he played his last Test against South Africa in Chattogram in 2008.

Shakib surpasses Rafique to become oldest Bangladeshi to play Test

Shakib Al Hasan became the oldest Bangladeshi cricketer to play in a Test match when he stepped onto the field on Day 3 of the Tigers' first Test against India in Chennai today.

At 37 years and 181 days old, Shakib surpassed former left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafique, who was 37 years and 180 days when he played his last Test against South Africa in Chattogram in 2008.

In the broader cricketing world, England's Wilfred Rhodes remains the oldest player to feature in a Test, holding the record at 52 years and 165 days when he played his final match against the West Indies in Kingston in 1930. Rhodes also holds the record for the longest Test career, spanning 30 years and 315 days.

As for the current match in Chennai, Bangladesh continues to struggle as India's overnight batters, Rishabh Pant (25* off 39) and Shubman Gill (39* off 74), started Day 3 strongly. India has reached 100 for 3 after 29 overs, extending their lead to 327 runs.
