Travel ban slapped on ex-minister SM Rezaul

A Dhaka court today issued a ban on foreign travels of former fisheries and livestock minister SM Rezaul Karim.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Ash Shams Zaglul Hossain passed the order upon a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for conducting an enquiry into allegations of his illegally acquired assets.

ACC director and investigation officer Monayem Sarker filed the application seeking a court order against his foreign travels to prevent him from fleeing the country with illegally amassed wealth and documents that could hamper the enquiry.

The commission's enquiry has found that SM Rezaul allegedly amassed wealth illegally under his and his family members' names through irregularities and corruption beyond known sources of income by misusing state power.

The ACC found that Rezaul acquired movable and immovable properties worth crores of taka under his and his family members' names at Najirpur of Pirojpur and Dhaka.
