In a joint operation conducted Thursday night, 14 individuals suspected of being involved in vandalism, attacks, and creating unrest in the garment sector were detained from Dhaka's Ashulia industrial area and surrounding areas of Savar.

Confirming the arrests to The Business Standard, Dhaka District Superintendent of Police Ahmad Muyeed said, "We have arrested a total of 14 suspects involved in creating unrest in the industrial area and for their alleged involvement in attacks and vandalism at garment factories. Among them, 11 were arrested from Ashulia and three from Savar."

The police are currently verifying the involvement of the detainees in the incidents of disorder and factory attacks, he said.

However, the identities of those arrested have not been disclosed. Further investigations are ongoing to establish the extent of their involvement in the disturbances.

Meanwhile, joint forces have arrested a security guard in Gazipur for instigating the recent labour protests and vandalism.

The arrestee Moniruzzaman Monir, was working as a security guard of Konabari BSCIC, said Konabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shah Alam.

Monir was later taken to court this afternoon and the court ordered to send him to jail, the OC added.
