Court imposes travel ban on 14 former ministers, MPs

A Dhaka court today (29 August) imposed travel ban on six former ministers and eight members of the parliament.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain issued the order following a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The former ministers who faced travel ban are Zahid Maleque, Dr Dipu Moni, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Sadhan Chandra Majumder, Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Kamal Ahmed Majumder, Shahjahan Khan, and Qamrul Islam.

Additionally, former MPs Salim Uddin, Mamunur Rashid Kiran, Kujendra Lal Tripura, Kazim Uddin, Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury, and Ziaur Rahman have been banned from travelling abroad.

According to the ACC petition, there are concerns that former ministers and MPs from various constituencies, who are accused of irregularities and corruption in accumulating illegal wealth, may attempt to flee the country.

To ensure a fair investigation, the anti-graft body sought a travel ban on these individuals.
