Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has called on party leaders and activists to prepare from the field against corruption and communalism.

"The game will be played. But it will not be surrendered to. There will be a play against corruption, and against communalism. I will deal with everything from the field," he said while speaking as chief guest at a meeting of the ruling Awami League, marking its 75th founding anniversary, at the capital's Bangabandhu Avenue on Saturday (29 June).

About BNP's programme, Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges minister, said, "BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is a fugitive and a convicted criminal. He sits in London and announces programmes.

In response to the comments of BNP leaders on Bangladesh-India relations, Quader said, "Have you forgotten what slavery and lease mean? The day after Indian Prime Minister Modi came to power for the first time, the office of the Indian High Commission was closed.

"BNP leaders went there with flower garlands. They wanted to do brokerage, but they couldn't. They didn't get any attention.

"We are friends, we will remain friends."

Warning the Awami League leaders and activists, he said, "No one will show off power. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina believes in the zero tolerance policy."

The meeting started around 3:00pm in front of the Awami League central office.

Dhaka city south unit Awami League President Abu Ahmad Mannafi presided over the meeting moderated by Dhaka city south unit Awami League general secretary Humayun Kabir.

Local councillors from each ward of Dhaka South City Corporation, leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies with separate processions joined the rally.
