Taskin says ‘no regrets’ over missing IPL opportunities

Premier Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed said he has no regrets over missing stints in the Indian Premier League (IPL) despite multiple offers.

While fellow quick Mustafizur Rahman was allowed to ply his trade for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2024, Taskin and Shoriful Islam were not given the green signal. Instead, the duo took part in the 50-over Dhaka Premier League (DPL).

The fast bowler, who has 26 T20I wickets at an average of 14.5 and an economy rate of 6.98, pulled out of the IPL auction knowing that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wouldn't grant him the No Objection Certificate (NOC).

Later, Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings contacted him in an attempt to sign him as a replacement player but it never materialised because of the clearance issue.

On the board's different policies when it comes to different players, Taskin said, "The policy is the same, but probably a little bit different because of the differences in the bodies [of the pacers]. That's why the board has a lot to ponder. All the fast bowlers are managing different types of injuries. Probably my body is different [from that of others] and that's why I couldn't go."

"I was even supposed to play Tests. But in order to manage the shoulder issue, I took a break. Perhaps I will play [the IPL] in future Insha Allah. I have no regrets (smiles)."
