The ICT Division of the government has ordered the field administrations to update the list of the beneficiaries of government-announced cash assistance within Monday.

"The decision was taken after several complaints raised saying some people are withdrawing money of more than one person using one phone number in some areas of the country," Shah Kamal, senior secretary of Disaster Management Ministry, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard tonight.

"Money disbursement to those controversial phone numbers have been stopped already. It will resume only after confirming with their national identity cards or bank accounts," the senior government official added.

He also said, "The disbursement was supposed to be completed by May 18, now it may take few more days as the list is being updated. But all will get money before Eid."

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the disbursement of Tk1,250 crore cash assistance through mobile financial services (MFSs) among 50 lakh poor families, who have been severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
