SAPL launches alternative import logistic solutions for traders

The country's two leading ports- Chattogram Port and Kamalapur Inland Container Depot (ICD)- are facing severe congestion of containers due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.

Kamalapur ICD is well beyond its storage capacity, making it impossible for the Chattogram Port to send import containers to Dhaka.

To this respect, the Summit Alliance Port Limited's (SAPL) Inland Water Container Terminal in Muktarpur of Munshiganj district having enough customs-bonded storage capacities has come forward to provide the much needed alternative import logistic solutions for the country, said a  press statement issued by the company on Thursday.

SAPL has successfully begun diverting the Kamalapur ICD bound import containers from Chattogram to its terminal by using specially designed inland container vessels.

After the completion of the customs clearance, importers are receiving their items from there, the press statement said adding that the SAPL's facility is also able to offer the much needed consolidation and port services to the Dhaka-based exporters.

Jowher Rizvi, managing director at SAPL said, "We are working to support the agriculture sector, textile and knitting industry, pharmaceutical and other manufacturers by bringing these vital raw materials to importers in Dhaka."

"At the same time, SAPL is supporting the Chattogram Port and the Kamalapur ICD to decongest their container yards," he added.
